The Launch of Sangga Science Scholarships
At Sangga Bumi Lestari, our foundation is built on a scientific and data-driven methodology. Central to this philosophy is our dedication to nurturing Indonesian talent. We are thrilled to solidify this pledge with the inauguration of the Sangga Science Scholarships programme, alongside the celebration of our first four Sangga Scholars.
The Sangga Science Scholarships initiative is designed to empower students in their quest for academic excellence through field research, which is integral to their higher education journey. With a special focus on Kalimantan’s scholars, our aim is to enrich the academic journey of the region’s brightest minds. Simultaneously, we strive to fill the critical gaps in our understanding of Indonesia’s richly diverse yet vulnerable ecosystems.
Filling the gap: Enhancing Biodiversity Knowledge in the Labian-Leboyan Corridor
Sangga Bumi, in collaboration with Tanjungpura University’s Faculty of Forestry in Pontianak, has embarked on an ambitious multi-year project. The goal is to strengthen the ecological corridors within the verdant expanses of Kapuas Hulu’s Betung Kerihun-Danau Sentarum region in West Kalimantan. A significant challenge we face is the limited knowledge about the biodiversity and vegetation inhabiting the area between the Betung Kerihun and Danau Sentarum National Parks, known as the Labian-Leboyan landscape.
Fostering Future Scientists: The Inauguration of Sangga Science Scholarship
Four Tanjungpura students have developed projects to enhance our understanding of the distribution and population dynamics of primates in Labian-Leboyan. We are proud to support their research:
Chornelius Abel will investigate: Population Analysis and Local Ecological Knowledge on tri-colour langurs (Presbytis chrysomelas cruciger) in Labian-Leboyan.
Shofi Aya Shafira will investigate: Density Estimation of Bornean Orangutans (Pongo pygmeaus) in Labian-Leboyan.
Yuyun will investigate: Population Survey and Perception Analysis of the Disturbance by Macaca fascicularis in Labian-Leboyan.
Regita Pramesti Titania will investigate: Population Estimation of Long-tailed Macaques (Macaca fascicularis) in Labian-Leboyan.
The team at Sangga Bumi, together with Dr. Hj. Farah Diba, S.Hut, M.Si, Head of the Forestry Faculty at Tanjungpura University, recently launched the Sangga Science Scholarships programme. This significant milestone was celebrated with a special event on the university campus. We are wholeheartedly committed to advancing crucial research and extend our best wishes to Chornelius, Yuyun, Shofi, and Regita for their endeavours in Kapuas Hulu
We plan to expand the scope of the Sangga Science Scholarship programme. Stay tuned for more information later in the year, and feel free to contact us at info@sanggabumilestari.org if you have any questions.
